All of us celebrate Diwali in a lot of ways such as making sweets, lighting candles, lots of shopping, lighting fire crackers, etc.......
A trend is now settled in every citizen that without crackers there will be no feel of Diwali. Why is it so? I mean knowing every single harm of crackers we still feel its mandatory to light fire crackers on Diwali.
On one hand people are conscious of pollution and show awareness by throwing waste in dustbins, following ban on loud music in open area after 10pm and using of LPG, CNG, smoke filters, etc. to keep our biosphere safe.
On the other side people burn fire crackers on Diwali, Dussera and other occasion like marriages, etc. I really fear when i see that people knowingly ignore the side effects of crackers and celebrate Diwali with crackers.
Why people become so insensitive towards nature in the hyper sounds and lights of crackers?
The pollution control board in Ghaziabad had monitored air and noise parameters on October 15 (pre-Diwali) and October 23 (on Diwali) in accordance with the direction of the Central Pollution Control Board.
On Diwali the quantity of particulate matter suspended in the air was five times more than the normal limits in Ghaziabad. Noise levels were also measured more than 20 decibels superior than what are considered safe for human ears.
“A multitude of factors contributed to the increase in PM10 levels which includes dust pollution. Climatic conditions, including temperature and wind speeds, also ensured that particulate matter did not disperse quickly”, says Paras Nath, regional officer, UPPCB.
However pollution as compared is much less than it was in past years.
A cracker not only pollutes the environment, it also causes many deadly air-borne diseases. It releases carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and sulfur dioxide to the atmosphere which cause serious health hazards.
