When much hyped movies don’t do well, publicity stunts are bound to happen! I guess that’s what Deepika Padukone is doing right now.
On Sunday the Times of India (TOI) tweeted a picture of Deepika taken last year with a link to a photo gallery of her with the caption: "OMG: Deepika Padukone's cleavage show". Padukone’s response to this on Twitter was, "YES! I am a Woman. I have breasts AND a cleavage! You got a problem!!??"
Well ….. nobody has a problem with Deepika having breasts (if any) and showing them off to whomsoever and in whichever movie! But we have a problem with unnecessary crap coming up against journalism & media just because she wants more promotion for her recent release Finding Fanny.
Although the daily (TOI) later tweeted advising her to consider it as a compliment, the newspaper still deleted the original tweet about Deepika’s dress that she wore to a film launch in 2013.
Deepika’s updated username on Twitter is Finding Fanny instead of her name. At this time, making such outrageous remarks at the media and lashing out at something which may not be new to her comes across as more of a publicity stunt rather than a genuine opinion for women’s respect. Haven’t we noticed her cleavage-revealing dresses that she has worn for so many movies and events earlier? These pictures otherwise may have been perceived in the usual sense of sensual photography and would have been rather appreciated by fans worldwide. But just because India’s most respected newspaper (TOI) posted those pics and it was the right time to attract more attention to her twitter page titled Finding Fanny, Padukone simply picked it up to her benefit and retaliated.
While it is absolutely right to assert upon the respect and privacy of women in Bollywood, it is not acceptable to lash out at media for something which is not an uncommon site! Such pictures are very common and there has never been any controversy around them ever in the past. And for all those who are supporting Deepika without applying their brains, do you not see that even her sudden out-of-the-blues support for Shweta Prasad was nothing but a way to gain media hype?
For the love of God, Times of India is not a small-time media house that does such things to grab public attention! If Deepika really felt annoyed with their tweet, there were other more cordial ways to remove any explicit content. But this kind of reaction is definitely meant to attract publicity.
So Deepika Padukone, we know that you are a woman who has breasts and a cleavage (which you don’t quite shy away to show-off!), please respect your womanhood and stop playing cheap tricks for publicity.
