With constant pressure from the Public our Indian Medical Association is pleading more towards the government agencies to crack down these quacks & we are waiting to see the much desired results.
More than the fake doctors and the expired medicines, what is keeping the quacks alive and kicking is their self promotion on the various TV channels. They have enough money to advertise themselves by the means of media so that people can easily getthose things.
It seems that there is nothing that they cannot cure. Unfortunately, mostly women with their uncounted ailments and problems fall prey. It is disgusting, to see such hypocrites adopt the cause of medicine, mostly untested and uncertified, for which the below poverty line people fall for. Why the owners of such TV Channels do not have a reality check on these programmes before they air them ???
If we take a look at why poor people become victim...there are few reasons which we have to admit. The present day corporate structure in Hospital management becomes a curse as many of the poor cannot afford such a huge cost of treatment. It is easy to see why patients sometimes fall prey to fake doctors. They seem more accessible, charge less, take more time to talk to them, and seem to understand patients better and apparently examine them well, even though they give them wrong prescription and details of the disease, but at the end they don’t know the reality that they are giving invitation to a new disease.
The need to give attention to fake medicines, expired drugs resale, fake medical practitioners arises now to stem the rot in our systems. This is possible only by harsh punishments, heavy fines, and quality control checks by experienced auditing and monitoring of quack doctors. By arresting them alone can save our systems & save the mankind. It is time for the State & Central Governments to focus their attention to prevent malpractices in Medicine & improve our standards to save mankind. If our Govt. becomes strict with such illegal practices then we can easily eradicate this problem in the whole country.
Another major worry to the society is the Fake doctors who thrive mostly in rural and inaccessible areas and make quick bucks in poison and abortion cases. Not knowing about the proper medicines and treatment mostly people fall victim either those people are illiterate or stingy, which may also lead to death.
Quacks never reveal the secrets of their trade and business. After all, they are fraudsters. Expired and unlabelled packaging of medicines gives them a means to make money. They criticise modern medicine in front of their patients but mix drugs in their own formulations. A substantial portion of this deceit also involves faith healing, but this often goes unnoticed. India is one of the largest producers of fake drugs. Unfortunately, they often increase antibiotic resistance and can cause severe adverse drug reactions.
Let us hope that our Govt. realises this problem and resolves it soon so that people are aware of such fake medical practitioners and stay away from them.
